What It's Like to Role Play as a Dog for s*x

The trailer above is for an upcoming documentary called Secret Life of the Human Pups, and it explores the world of pup play, which, according to The Guardian, is a subsect of BDSM, mostly enjoyed by people who enjoy wearing leather, stomach tickling and ear-rubbing, and having relationships with "handlers." NEPups.org (an NSFW site) notes while puppy play is primarily sexual for both same- and opposite-sex couples, it can also solely be a form of escapism.
Squeaky dog toys and wearing dog-like hoods or suits are oftentimes part of puppy play, the site notes, and while one is in puppy space, he or she completely assumes the role of a dog to his handler, performing tricks and being walked and disciplined. According to the trailer, around 10,000 people in the U.K. enjoy puppy play.
The documentary follows a few men as they prepare for Mr. Puppy Europe, a beauty pageant for pup players. Tom, whose dog name is Spot, tells The Guardian, that for him, pup play feels natural: "You're not worrying about money, or food, or work. It's just the chance to enjoy each other's company on a very simple level."
He didn't realize at first puppy play was what he was into — after exploring collars and dog suits, another man in a club identified him as a puppy player before he even knew there was a name for it. He's since broken up with his fiancée and is now in a relationship with his handler Colin. Though Rachel and Colin are still friends, she doesn't want to know more about his interest in puppy play. There are plenty of women who do want to explore pet play, pup guardian Kye told the Daily Mail. Women are usually more into kittens though "as they identify more with kittens than pups."
