Exhausted dad reveals difficulty of 'being mum' in viral post

When Brad Kearns's wife was taken to hospital with liver failure, the 27-year-old Australian had to become 'mum' to his two infant sons.
After realising how hard full-time mothers have it, Kearns took to Facebook to document his disastrous attempts at single parenthood in a post that has now gone viral.
"It all started yesterday," begins Kearns's social media post, "when I had to rush out of work. Because I'm a dad - and dads get respite for 40+ hours per week under the socially acceptable proviso of 'supporting the family' - while mum continues doing what women seem to so effortlessly do. 'My liver has failed,' read the text message from Sarah. And that's when I became the mum.
 "It's now been 24 hours..."
Kearns proceeds to reveal how exhausting he found just one night alone with his children and how Knox, two, and Finn, six months, managed to break his spirit in just over 12 hours.
"As the night rolls on, my patience wears thin," writes Kearns, detailing how he fed his two-year-old instant noodles and sat him in front of the television. "I reduced myself to keeping Knox quiet by allowing him to place stickers on my (very hairy) legs. He was being quiet - 'It's okay, I can shave them off in the morning,' was the thought - 'Just don't wake Finn'."

Kearns then describes how volatile his six-month old baby son is.
"It's amazing how babies sleep the way they do. When you change and finish feeding them, and you gently pick him up to burp him, and he burps, and you rub his back to make him comfortable. And his eyelids become heavy, and he breathes heavily through his nose as the comforting warmth becomes too much for him to be able to keep his eyes open. It's really beautiful.
"Right up until the part where he f**king screams from the high heavens," Kearns hastens to add, "as if I've thrown him at a wall by his legs!"

What It's Like to Role Play as a Dog for s*x

What It's Like to Role Play as a Dog for s*x

The trailer above is for an upcoming documentary called Secret Life of the Human Pups, and it explores the world of pup play, which, according to The Guardian, is a subsect of BDSM, mostly enjoyed by people who enjoy wearing leather, stomach tickling and ear-rubbing, and having relationships with "handlers." NEPups.org (an NSFW site) notes while puppy play is primarily sexual for both same- and opposite-sex couples, it can also solely be a form of escapism.
Squeaky dog toys and wearing dog-like hoods or suits are oftentimes part of puppy play, the site notes, and while one is in puppy space, he or she completely assumes the role of a dog to his handler, performing tricks and being walked and disciplined. According to the trailer, around 10,000 people in the U.K. enjoy puppy play.
The documentary follows a few men as they prepare for Mr. Puppy Europe, a beauty pageant for pup players. Tom, whose dog name is Spot, tells The Guardian, that for him, pup play feels natural: "You're not worrying about money, or food, or work. It's just the chance to enjoy each other's company on a very simple level."
He didn't realize at first puppy play was what he was into — after exploring collars and dog suits, another man in a club identified him as a puppy player before he even knew there was a name for it. He's since broken up with his fiancée and is now in a relationship with his handler Colin. Though Rachel and Colin are still friends, she doesn't want to know more about his interest in puppy play. There are plenty of women who do want to explore pet play, pup guardian Kye told the Daily Mail. Women are usually more into kittens though "as they identify more with kittens than pups."

Pictures of her taking a peace sign selfie in front of protesters made Zakia Belkhiri a media darling - briefly.
A Muslim woman who was photographed taking selfies in front of a Belgian protest last week, earning her widespread praise for her cheerful stance against bigotry, reportedly praised Hitler and called for the killing of Jews in past Facebook posts.
Zakia Belkhiri was photographed taking the selfies as she flashed a peace sign in front of Vlaams Belang protesters at the third annual Muslim Expo in Antwerp. The protests were part of the increasing resistance in Belgium and elsewhere in Europe to the flood of Muslim refugees pouring in from war-torn and poverty stricken countries in the Middle East and Africa.
"How To Neutralize Anti-Islam Protesters with a Selfie," was the headline of a Vice.com article where the photos by Jurgen Augusteyns initially appeared.
Belkhiri told the BBC she took the photos "to show that things can be different. And that we can live together, not next to each other but with each other."
Social media commenters called Belkhiri "a badass" who put anti-Islamist protesters in their place. But the newfound notoriety brought scrutiny of Belkhiri's alleged Facebook and Twitter posts by Breitbart.com and other sites. Many were far more disturbing than anything Belkhiri was protesting.
"Hitler didn't kill all the Jews, he left some," read one. "So we [would] know why he was killing them."
A Facebook post attributed to Belkhiri said, "F---ing Jews, I hate them so much."
Belkhiri briefly deactivated her Twitter account, then reactivated it to first deny the posts were hers and then to apologize and explain that she had meant "Zionists."

I recently saw a graphic from a respected advocacy organization recognizing March as Colon Cancer Awareness Month, asking readers to "Tell the world that colon cancer is preventable, treatable, and beatable."

I beat back an overwhelming urge to hurl my laptop across the room. Four
months ago, my 40-year-old triathlete sister was told she had stage IV colon cancer. There was no family history, save for an uncle diagnosed in his 70s. She felt great, and had no symptoms until a large mass rapidly appeared on her liver that was visible and palpable on her slender, athletic body.
She thought it might be a coughing-induced hernia from a recent respiratory infection. Her surgeon was 95-99% certain it was a benign liver cell adenoma. Today, she is six rounds into an aggressive course of chemotherapy, trying to shrink remaining tumors to the point where they may be surgically removed, and her oncology team is trying hard to match her with a clinical trial.
So much for preventable: we are hoping and praying and she is working hard toward treatable and beatable.

Is colorectal cancer, as our advocates tell us, preventable? Is any cancer truly preventable? In colorectal cancer, colonoscopies may identify cancer in its earliest stages, when small tumors or pre-cancerous polyps can often be safely and easily removed, thereby stopping progression. While they may prevent cancer from developing and spreading, colonoscopies do not exactly prevent colorectal cancer. (Not to mention that an asymptomatic person under the age of 50 would never get one.)
Prevention would mean understanding what causes pre-cancerous polyps from developing in the first place, and knowing how to stop that from happening. In addition to screening, healthy lifestyle factors are prevalent in prevention messaging around many cancers. Colon cancer researchers note that smoking, lack of exercise, red meat consumption or excessive alcohol intake may increase risk for colon cancer.
